What is a Mentor?
A mentor is someone who facilitates growth and development - professionally, spiritually, or personally - in another person by sharing experiences, insights and skills that have been gained through the years of living and learning. A mentor is a model or an example for you to imitate in an effort to see certain desirable aspects of the mentors life reproduced in your own life.
Although mentoring doesn’t appear in the bible, scripture does give us numerous examples.
The mentoring relationship between Eli and Samuel prepared Samuel for the tasks and responsibilities that were after Eli’s death. ( 1 Samuel 1-4 ). Jesus mentored his disciples
( Luke 9 ), and both Barnabas and Paul excelled in mentoring (Acts 9:1-15 )
The process of mentoring has three components that makes the process that much more rewarding trust, enrichment and development.
